    Ford Explorer Rebuild and Repost

I'm too lazy to repost all the other stuff.
About a year after I bought it in 2005ish. 4" Superlift, and it had 31 10.50s originally.

    Dana 30 swap, Q78 Tsl's, 4.56 gears.

Early Bronco dana 44 and 9", 5.13 gears.

Full width f250 dana 44 and full width 9". 5.43 gears and 38 Tsls. 3 link front 4" super lift leaves and about a 2' block in the rear.

During my failed np 435 swap, and with the 38 15.50 tsls. I never could get the clutch to work properly. It also shows the ride hieght with the f250 dana 44.

This is shortly after I got it back from being stored at a friend's house, also checking out the coil overs I bought.

    Begining of front 9"

Front 9" with 2.75" tubes inside factory tubes and factory inner C's, next to a 79 Ford danan 44.

Front 9" tacked in place and frame mostly cleaned of old brackets.

Temporary lower control arm tacked in place. Inner C not attached.

Pics at ride hieght with tire mounted on axle.

I'm currently talking myself into full hydro steering, but I still have the room for my original hydro assist if need be. If I do go with the full hydro, I think I'm going to try and fit it to the back of the axle. I'm also still undecided on the suspension system, but it looks like it will be a single triagulated 4 link, as there is just no room for the uppers inside the frame rails.

I got the other side put together somewhat. Lower links are tacked on, both sides. The lowers are right at 36". I'm thinking 3/4" heims for the uppers, just because they're cheap. Uppers will be around 25".

I would've reposted sooner, but I had to get to a computer. I can't do pics from my phone.

I got my upper link material and joints in yesterday. Today I cut them and put them together. I also got some tubing and steel to use as the mounts.

Will it cause me any problems for my upper link mounts to be forward a few inches from the center line of the axle? This will allow me to make them longer.

Here is what I'm looking at doing. Overlook my cobbled together brackets and mounts.

I will most likely hack together something for the other side tomorrow and cycle the suspension and see what happens.

I have the suspension all tacked together, and cycled some. The upper link mounts hit the frame before full bump when the opposite side is dropped down. I expected this, so I will mostlikely chop some off the frame.
Pic at full droop on driver side, passenger side is up as far as it would go.

Pic of one upper link and the brackets, all tacked together.

I finally got some time to work on this.
I started some new frame rails.

They haven't changed. 38s, front 9", 302, maybe propane, hydro steering, and most impoant, as low as possible. That the reason for the front half.

More of the front frame, I sort of threw the axle under it.

I think the radiator might be a little tall now.

  17. #17
The frame sections will be welded and bolted.

Drug this out. I ran out of the other projects. I pulled the 302 for my 71 f100, so I had the 351w just sitting there.
